Ice Blue

Beverage drinks are dime a dozen. For me, which one I buy comes down to who does the best job advertising. Often times, manufacturers like Coke and Pepsi take a more modest approach to advertising; they tend to stick to the appeals that hit closer to home, like the nurture, affliction, or achieve appeals. Lately, the lighter sodas have been taking a more out-of-the-box style of approach.
This ad is for Sprite Ice Blue. It has a lady with her tongue out all covered in ice, and a bottle of Sprite Ice Blue in the bottom right corner. This ad does a great job of using the need for curiosity and need for attention appeals. It uses the curiosity appeal by making the lady look out of the ordinary. She has somewhat of a smirk underneath her tongue sticking out. She is also covered in ice. The image draws a potential customer in for a second look because it is an out of the ordinary picture and, therefore, satisfies the appeal of curiosity. This ad also uses the need for attention in the same way it did with the appeal of curiosity: the lady looks out of the ordinary. By making her look happy, it draws a potential customer to ask what the product might do to him/her if he/she drank Sprite Ice Blue. It also draws a potential customer to wonder what it may taste like. Overall, the ad utilizes many different shades of blue and plays off the name, Sprite Ice Blue, by covering the whole ad in ice and blue.
For me, this ad drew me in from first glance. I immediately was curious of what the product tasted like. I especially liked the fact that the lady’s whole face was covered in ice. On a hot, summer day, this would probably cause me to want to go buy Sprite Ice Blue. I also really enjoy the excess of the color blue throughout the entire ad. This makes the ad feel like it is much cooler, especially because it is accompanied by ice. Overall, I feel like this ad did a good job of appealing to potential customers.
